A family friend of ours, Phil Gates, stayed with us recently. During his visit we all took a day trip to Beaufort, just over 2.5 hours from Raleigh on the coast. We took a guided tour with Captain Bob, learned about the town's history and saw wild horses on Carrot Island. All of us visited the Maritime Museum and saw some of the recovered remains of Blackbeard's ship - Queen Anne's Revenge. We closed out the day with a stop at Atlantic Beach where the girls went swimming and Sam ate some sand and chased the waves.
